70 challenger AC question - 02/17/09 04:08 PM

I am getting ready to put ac on the challenger. It is an orginal ac car and I have the inside done. Looking at Classic air or Bouchillon Performance for under the hood. Anyone have any experience with these guys which one is better?
Thanks Mike

I'm currently installing a bouchillon setup ina 70 challenger. I can't comment on the other guys. One thing is you can get the ac compressor much cheaper on ebay, like half price. The one I got has a polished finish too. I haven't finished it yet, but so far so good. I haven't fully fit the compressor yet, had some trouble with the spacing and no the alternator doesn't line up quite right. So trying different spacers there. Seems like a good kit at a good price.

I put a Classic Auto Air system on my cuda. It too was original with A/C. Kit went together perfect, and hasn't lost any charge since 2001.

Also with the Bouchillon kit you can get a bracket that mounts the compressor UNDER the alternator so that it isn't so obvious right on top of the motor. The drawback is then there is no room for the mech fuel pump so you have to go electric. Just another option though.

My 71 Challenger is a factory AC car, and everything from the firewall out is from Classic Air. It's a small block car.I would be happier with it if it didn't have to have an idler pulley, but it works good. The big block mounting system from Classic looks a lot nicer than the small block, and uses no idler pulley. I looked at Bouchillon's mounts, and was like When I do our Cuda, I will make the Sanden compressor fit on a factory small block bracket.I saw a car at a show, and the owner had used all the Classic stuff on the factory compressor mount with no idler pulley

I have a bb with electric fuel pump. I upgraded the alt. and it mounts lower than orginial so I don't think the lower mount will work. I think I'll check with Classic Air today.
Thanks Mike
