it would've been a 340 Duster

is the VIN stamping easily readable? is it possibly 0B379634
I decoded a fender tag for blush someone??? blush ~7 years ago for VS29H0B379634 shock

Dan's the man!...Again! I knew you would chime in,thanks!It is definitely an 8 in the VIN stamp,very clear. I'll try to post a pic next.

Re: 1970 340 ID/original application - 02/03/17 07:43 AM

the stamp on the front of the block should be:

FW340P32540012

F = 1970 model year
W = Windsor, ONT engine assembly plant
340 = cu.in.
P = premium fuel
3254 = Thursday 6/25/70 engine assembly date
0012 = engine unit number

VS29H0B379684 would've been scheduled 6/12/70 - is the 3254 accurate? or the car was built LATE, LATE, LATE (missed by 13+ days)

I think Dan,6bblGT does a little reverse engineering and has a serious database built. Taking the VIN sequence vs the build plant/factory and cid,etc. as to what model was built where and when.

VINs were assigned in batches - since '70 Duster production was in excess of 200,000 units the Duster batches are in the 1,000 car neighborhood. shock

At Hamtramck & LA, they are actually Valiant VIN sequence batches, so the Valiant Dusters VINs are mixed with the Valiant 4-door VINs.

Re: 1970 340 ID/original application - 02/03/17 12:00 PM

I had it in my head that it was in excess of 250,000 & looked up the Duster number and saw it was short of that number - now I know why? - another 40K+ VALIANT 4-doors up thanks!

they did make a ton of them ..... June 1970 total Valiant production = 43,297 units eek

1970 Plymouth A-body VALIANTs ~260K VS. 1970-1974 E-body ~320K shock

From a '70 Cuda.

So possible full VINs would be BS23H0B236819 or BS27H0B236819

Cool,how do you guys break it down to which vehicle it was in?I know some cars were only built at certain plants,but is it a balance of that,VIN sequence,build day,etc?

Re: 1970 340 ID/original application - 02/18/17 07:23 PM

Looks like the casting date is 11.14.69 on this 1970 340

Re: 1970 340 ID/original application - 02/18/17 08:02 PM

Hamtramck assigned VINs in types of the same model & this one hits in a known assigned area for Barracudas & Cudas.
