bullet mufflers as resonators

My 3" exhaust with dynomax round race mufflers is a bit loud. Thinking about adding dynomax bullet mufflers as resonators. Anyone else do this? Also would dynomax ultra flo mufflers make much difference in sound to the race magnums?

yes some glasspacks alongside the rear leafs will quiet it significantly. I use cheap parts house cherry bombs, the louvers are punched outward and the end nipples do not neck down where they are welded to the main body case, both plusses. It'd very likely be much cheaper than dynomax bullet muffs

What about 2.5" tail pipes from the mufflers to the bumper?

I haven't done it, but it's the same thing I had in mind to reduce the noise level a bit w/ my TTI 3" Ultraflow system.

Yes, I had,to install a pair on my Charger. It was just too loud for me for as much as I drive it. I must be getting old. My ears used to ring after driving for hours. Much quieter now and my ears don't ring anymore.

I currently have 3" tailpipes. Plan on leaving them on. I just saw dynomax makes a muffler that is a small X pipe. Dual 3" in and crossover. Maybe replace my x pipe with that?

I've used the Dynomax bullets as well as generic ones, both worked great for me.

I have wondered if it would be possible to experiment for
how big a diameter and how long a resonator near the tailpipe exit
has to be by "fabbing up" two pvc pipe resonators.

I think the exhaust gas temperature has dropped to a level where pvc would hold up for a few hours but one could clamp a small piece of pvc to the tailpipe exit and do some test drives to see if it melts at full throttle up a steep hill.

My fuzzy memory seems to whisper that Larry Widmer in Texas claimed to have run a hopped up Honda with the back six feet of the exhaust made of "dimpled" pvc pipe that also acted as a muffler.

I have a Jensen Interceptor. 440 2x4bbl with a 270H comp cam. 9.5 to 1.
I put on Delta S&S headers which are like a block hugger header with a longer collector and slightly longer primaries.
I made my own 2 1/2" mandrel bent exhaust straight out the rear, no crossover.
I have very large Walker mufflers each side in the original muffler hangers. 2 1/2" in and 2 1/2" out.
I built 2 1/2" Dynomax Bullets into my exhaust tips.

I love the sound of the car. It's very loud bass tone honestly. It's not quiet. But I love the exhaust note - would love it if any of my other MoPars had the same sound. Maybe a touch of drone at certain speeds and rpms but it's the exact sound I like. And I've owned quite a few performance 440s.....

As far as in car sound, the longer the muffler, the quieter and less drone there will be.
At the cars tail end, glass pack type mufflers will certainly help. Though use caution in your choice. Many will neckndown on the inside. This is a restriction that will hamper
HP output.

I suggest Magna Flow. The inside diameter remains the same. Nonrestrictive. You have noticed they come in 3 lengths. I installed mine past the rear axle along side the fuel tank. Here again, the longer the quieter.

I used Dyno Max Super Turbos behind a 5.9 Magnum w/Hooker Super Comp headers. (1-3/4) into a 2-1/2 exhaust. Pretty good on its own. The Magna Flows take a few more decibels out.

Heard of a lot of people using the Bullets as resonators and seems to work real well. Guess I'm not old enough for it to bother me yet. Bullets are cheap, but parts store glasspacks are cheaper...as long as you can find them in 3". Most are 2.25" or 2.5".

Changing to 2.5" tailpipes won't make a difference.

Someone mentioned earlier about experimenting w/ a PVC reducer at the tailpipe...it'll melt quick. Had a friend try to make a "stack" on his little 4 cyl. pickup truck out of a piece of 4" dia. PVC pipe. It started melting before he got out of his driveway and fell over in the bed 1/4 mile down the road, lol.

Super Turbos are much quieter and don't drone, but they WILL hurt the power noticeably.

Went through this w/ my dad's 440-6 road runner w/ 3" exhaust. Ultraflows droned too much for him. Replaced w/ Super Turbos...sounded good, no drone, but very noticeable drop in power. Replaced them w/ Hooker Aerochamber mufflers and now he's happy. Got the power back, sounds great w/ very little, if any, drone.

And BTW...Those welded X Dynomax mufflers can't flow very well. Look at how the "X" is constructed inside them compared to a well built X pipe crossover. The "X" in the muffler basically restricts down to the size of one pipe.

I must be getting old also. I added the bullet mufflers as resonators on my Charger since I drive it so many miles during the summer & it made a world of difference for the drone on my home built X pipe 3" full dual exhaust with Flowbastard mufflers that has been on their since the late 80's early 90's. Much quieter at all speeds now & still sounds great at idle. No good pictures of them under the car though, sorry. I have them tucked up under both sides of the gas tank going thru the stock tips modified for the 3" exhaust. You can't even see them unless you really look for them.

I used Flowmaster resonators (15150S) on my 2.5" TTI exhaust system that was very noisy and droned on my 6.1 Hemi. These are true "resonators" (ie have a tuned parallel tube but are straight through. Totally fixed my problem.

pretty much all mufflers will drone at a certain rpm. I have super turbos on my bb Duster with a 6 speed. With 2 overdrives I usually can pick a different gear to make it better. Before I put the bb in it I made a single 2.5" system with a super turbo. And it was annoying. I added a swap meet glass pack with the louvered core and it was night and day. On my dart I have ultra flows with twister bullet mufflers as resonator. It sounds wicked but I haven't driven it any distance yet.

I have 2 1/2" Dynomax bullets as resonators on my Jensen Interceptor, its VERY loud and very bassy.
I bought 2 1/2"Super Turbos for my Cordoba. Fairly stock 318. I'm pretty sure it ain't gonna suffer toooooo much power wise....? It's a 318! Dual 2 1/2" mandrel bent exhaust pipes!

True resonators will sharply attenuate a drone noise better in the narrow rpm range its tube length is tuned for, but bullet mufflers will attenuate at least some noise over a much broader rpm range.

my cheapie cherry bombs did work but like most glasspacks they do get louder over time. the louvers were punched outward & the end nipples did not neck down where welded to the main case, big plusses & they could easily be replaced as the noise got objectionable.

I am pretty sure that powersticks come in a 3"
