2013 Grand Caravan clunk

2013 Grand Caravan clunk - 12/09/16 09:39 PM

I've had this van for about 4 months. With the drive train hot or cold I will OCCASIONALLY get a transmission clunk when shifting from reverse to drive. I have the car fully stopped and the brakes applied.

This seems to be a problem with this generation van. I haven't learned much from the Web other than it seems to happen to others and not much has helped. Computer flashes, bolt tightening, fluid and filter change didn't do much.

Any opinions?

Thanks

Had an 04 caravan do that because the torque of the big axle hub bearing nuts were not up to factory torque specs. You could see some very fine rust buildup around spline area.

It is normal. It is caused from the multiple sets of planetary gears in the trans used causing driveline wind-up. The 6 speed trans is almost the same as the 4 speed except they use a compounder instead of a straight transfer shaft. The compounder has clutches, planetary gears in it.

Ok thanks. I talked to a Tech buddy that works at a Chrysler dealership and he had never heard about it.

He talked about the axle nuts and maybe the "K" frame bolts.

Thanks

No repair needed is the best news.
I hope it is normal.
Our experience was bad lower control arm bushings.
Of course our van is a much older.
