Disc Brake Positioners: necessary?

Disc Brake Positioners: necessary? - 11/01/16 07:42 PM

I wonder what the function is for the disc brake positioners seen on the 70 and 71 E Bodies with the slider type pin calipers.

I have seen many cars driving around no problem without the positioners or the anti rattle springs....

if you dont run the springs....well you may get some rattle out of the brake pads....

but what about not running the positioners????

Positioners?

Are you talking about the rubber band looking things? If so I never run them.

These are "positioners"
No, they aren't necessary.
Ma, Mopar did away with them, when they figured out they didn't do any good anyway.

I was crawling under my Challenger convertible recently to see how something was routed for reference for my other Challenger I'm restoring, and noticed on one caliper, the previous owner used the rubber grommets that come with the caliper kits as positioners when he restored the car! The other side had the correct metal ones. I've had the car 19 years and had never noticed that before. At any rate, the brakes have always worked fine in that car, despite not having the correct metal positioners on the one caliper!
