Biggest Rear Tire Under Stock B Body

Biggest Rear Tire Under Stock B Body - 02/13/09 12:42 AM

I have a '69 Satellite and was wondering what is the biggest tire you guys have put under them?
It has a stock width 8 3/4 stock springs and everything.
Let me know the Backspacing, rim width, tire size, and if you had to use any spacers.
I'm leaning towards a 295/65 on a 15x8 w/ 4.5" BS. I saw this was successfully used under a 69 Charger w/ a 3/16" spacer in the Tech section.
Also considering the Hoosier 29x12.5x15 radials and the 28x12x15 M/T Radials.
Let me know what you guys have successfully used.
Thanks

All are workable...Glad your not of the 275/60-15 is as big as it gets mindset...Backspacing gets critical when you start getting into bigger tires & it seems like every car is a little different so what works on some cars may not work on others... The other issue is all the tires you listed are DOT slick type tire & as long as you understand they don't last very long especially if you have a heavy foot & a little horsepower then all is good...BTW my buddy just replaced his Drag T/A's...They had 900 miles on them....

Yeah the 295/65's are the only one's that are drag radials. The other two are the Hoosier radials and the M/T Radials which should last a lot longer. I'll have to pay attention to the BS to get this right, that's why I'm trying to see what other's have done to get a starting point.

Depends on the body and how low the car is. My 275/60-15 on plain steel 15X7 wheels would rub entering driveways, but on the inside, not the lip. This was on a '69 Coronet with 2" blocks. The wheel lip was about 1/2" above the top of the rim. The leaf strings were weak, so stiffer ones would have helped, I'm sure.

You need to look at back spacing, a tire that size has a ton of room..Coronet & Charger are slightly roomier then Roadrunner & GTX but on my Coronet from the outet wheelwell lip to the inner wheelhouse measures 14.5"....Your running a 10.5" tire.... My buddy is running 305/5015's on 10" wide rallies on his Challenger which has a smaller wheelwell, his car is lowered 3" & the tires never rub... It takes a little effort to get the wheel offset right but you can get allot tire under a B body...
