Reverse is the right way to look at it if you
think you might sell.

What color is the car? Is it the original color?

You could always drive it without, then add them later.

Re: 1971 billboards or no? - 02/10/09 11:43 PM

For me that is easy. I didn't like the Billboards when the cars were new and I still haven't bought into let's put them on everything trend.

Seriously....it comes down to personal preference.

I think with certain paint/interior combos they look great, but with some combinations, they look

I couldn't agree more. They are pretty ugly to begin with, but putting them on everything takes the uniqueness away from those cars that actually did come from the factory with them. Many years ago I could appreciate them as being pretty interesting at least...now they are just zzzzzzzzzzz...

I like the billboards, if I had a cuda I'd add them.

Could always add a line in the ad saying for X dollars more I'll add a set of billboards...

The 70 Cuda is an extemely clean design, then Chrysler hung on the "busy" 71 grille and cheesey fender louvers. For me adding the billboards just totally "kiddies" it up. I would leave them off. If the next owner wants to add them he can go ahead.

Thanks! I was begining to think that I was the only one who likes the 70 'cuda's clean look. Back in the day the 70 was the "ONE"..........

I don't care for them much on none High Impact colors (and even those I only like them on the bright ones). One thing that sucks is cleaning them, wax build up on the edges, etc.

71 cudas without billboards look almost as boring as 70 Cuda's.

Put em on. Just make sure they are the black ones. The white don't look so good.

Seeing as how the billboards were the coolest thing ever invented next to the wheel... I'd say add them.

Decals are a pain to clean around though (wax).

Sell without, but throw them in with the sale (if you already have them) and give the proud new owner the choice!

Re: 1971 billboards or no? - 02/13/09 04:14 PM

Billboards all depend on the color of the car and the decal. To me, I love Curious Yellow with black billboards, but a black vinyl top and rubber bumpers should be a part of the image too. But seeing a car without a vinyl top and without billboards also makes for a new experience, as if it is a different car.

I also love white billboards. Of course it depends on the color of the car, but when you see one color with black ones and then a similar one with white one, again it's like looking at a whole different car.

I think all you need to do is look at Alan Gallant's old white and orange '71 340 car to see that these cars don't need billboards, and his car ended up better without them.

Re: 1971 billboards or no? - 02/13/09 07:09 PM

Given that the car is not a high impact color, I'd say skip the billboards - and this is coming from a guy that actually sells the stripes...

Re: 1971 billboards or no? - 02/13/09 07:35 PM

I just painted my 71' coal miners butt black- I had Phoenix graphics make my billboards out of the flat black(reflects white) material used on Road Runner strobe stripes- should look wicked. So my vote is for Billboards-

Re: 1971 billboards or no? - 02/15/09 08:14 PM

The new owner might re-paint and/or stripe the car! I despise clones and by the way guys, I'll
trade my "clean looking" '70 for a "busy" '71 all day long...

Re: 1971 billboards or no? - 02/15/09 09:22 PM

If that is what you like, put them on. I like em. Dont worry about if you have to sell it, if it is nice it will sell no matter what (if priced appropriately)

What wheels are on them? I like them without billboards if they have painted steel wheels. If they have 10 hole ralleys or magnums, I like the billboards.

Just sold a resto project 71-340-auto that was lemon twist with factory black billboards and top. I'd have to get rid of the black top though.
