Recommendation Needed for Big Block High Flow Water Pump. - 09/06/16 06:03 PM

Anyone have a particular pump that really gave them additional flow. I've seen a few advertised and tried in past applications but didn't seem to see much in extra flow compared to a standard pump.

Thanks.

There have been a couple of threads on this subject in the last week or two and dozens over the years. Shouldn't be hard to find. Go to the top of the page and type 'best water pump' (leave out the ') in the little box that says Google custom search. Then click search button. Ignore the Google ads and go straight down to the smaller print moparts links. Good luck finding much of a concensus. Most will say milodon or flowcooler but many will say it doesn't make much differnce. Make sure you have the correct size pulleys for the pump you choose.

This might help.
So far temps seem to be down 10 or more degrees from my old pump.

Any of the pumps w/ the anticavitation plate on the impeller work god. I've used both the Milodon and FlowKooler pumps w/ good results.

Plugging the bypass hole under the thermostat in the factory housings helps drop the temp also. Tap the hole for 3/8" NPT (no need to drill it), install a plug w/ a 1/8" hole drilled through it so it will bleed the air out.

In the instrumented test I referenced on last week's post the housings with the open hole greatly outflowed the housing without the hole.

Don't care what the flow test says. I can tell you that I, and everyone else I know that has done this modification, have seen around a 10° drop in temp b/c of blocking that hole.
