Remove oil pump and push the shaft out.
Might need able to twist it with a big screwdriver and use the cut of the gears to bring it up some.

I have looped wire around it and just pulled up.

grab the slot with long nose needle nose pliers and twist it out.

that is what I do & you may have to have someone turn the crank at the same time (if cam/tchain is in)

They can be hard to get out if a sludge buildup is on the shaft below the gear. I have one I cannot get out right now, and the frame is in the way of removing the oil pump and pounding it out. So this thread could help out.

I didn't buy this with that in mind but I got one of these off the sale table at Tractor Supply. It works great on the distributor gear. Especially when you're trying to line up the slot.

If the intake is off you can do it with a large screwdriver
