69 B-body clutch pedal rod to Z-bar

Hey, I have a pretty dumb question here. I'm reassembling the z-bar assembly and am confused about the pedal rod that goes to the z- bar.
1. Is it supposed to have a little bend offset from the middle?

2. How do I know which way it goes in, as there are 4 possible ways?

Far from an expert, but I believe thus:

long end up toward pedal, bend at bottom toward engine
