Headers for a 512B build

Headers for a 512B build - 08/19/16 09:27 PM

I've got a 400 at the engine builders getting done up with a 440 Source rotating assembly and I've come to the point where I need to start ordering all the bolt on parts. The motor is going into my Fifth Avenue (an M body) and I didn't anticipate there being large tube headers that would fit, so I'm looking at shorty headers, but can't find any that are swept back to clear the gear box that have at least 1 3/4" primaries and a 3" collector. Everything I can find only have a 2 1/2" collector. Do they make such a beast?

Yeah, I was under no delusions that I would find a long tube header that would work. That is why I was hoping something in a shorty for another application would work. I did find these though:

1 7/8" primaries and a 3" collector. Anyone ever see these before?

It would be nice to see a picture of the actual MOPAR headers. You don't think a Doug's D451 would work?

Those flanges don't give a warm fuzzy, sealing feeling.

Or a warm fuzzy bolting to the head feeling

Yeah, no fuzzy feeling here either... Looking at the engine again I think actual block huggers might fit. My car has the smaller Borgeson gear box in it. I know it's a smallblock pictured, but what do you guys think?

Do you think this style will work 1 3/4" primary 3" collector.

The top one is Hooker super comp the bottom "black one" is swept back design.

My understanding of the block huggers is that the dump right above the centerlink and some very tight and cramped plumbing is needed to clear it.

Hedman makes a midlength header that looks similar to the block hugger above but the collector angles back, pn 78070 is one. Problem is while it has 1 3/4" tubes the collector is 2 1/2".

I don't think they will. Looks like the steering link will interfere.

A-body small block headers will clear:
