HI all,

I was wondering if anyone has installed one of those new Fitech efi setups on their car? I was curious how the plumbing went from the fuel pump up? I run a mechanical pump on my 440 and was curious if I needed to upgrade or do anything, or was it plug and play?

If you are asking can you just use your mechanical pump, then no.

I heard that if you use their "Fuel Command Center" that you can use your mechanical pump.
The mechanical pump feeds the fuel command center that boosts the pressure to work with the throttle bodies.
It raises the price of the system install accordingly though.

You can you use stock mechanical fuel pump no problem, just before the line gets to the throttle ody you need to fit a large sump somewhere that will run the final line to the throttlebody/carb. Also will need a return line is all.

Look up their fuel command center. Buy from Paceperformance to save maybe 5% ifrc?



Once I get back from the Nats that will be my next large project for the bee.

Just Got the FiTech Friday, but I will be using an EFI tank mounted pump.

You can use a surge tank that is filled by the stock low pressure pump, then there is a high pressure EFI pump inside the tank to supply the EFI.
This could even be setup to not use a return line, but the return helps lower the fuel temperature.

When I talked to FiTech they told me that the supposed "advertised" vent on the Command center "is a RETURN" and "NOT" a vent. Said there was an advertising mess-up on calling it a vent. This was why some are having fuel puking out their vent.

So I asked if the 440 & hemi cars 1/4" return line would be big enough to handle the return from the Command center. Don't remember his exact quote but it was a negative.

I never understood why the didn't fit a float into the fuel command center? every carb I've ever worked on had a float to shut off fuel flow from a low pressure pump.

Return lines are usually the same size as the feed line - I suspect because of the volume that's not used at low rpms.

Plan is trailer the Bee there and possibly have someone drive my challenger. The Challenger I will be attempting to sell, but will also use in the stick class if I don't have my super bee squared away and comfortable racing it.

My thinking behind the question I asked FiTech on the 1/4 return line was,... would the pwm controlling of the pump at slow and low cruz speed be enough to where the 1/4 return would work? But the conversation never quit got that far, he didn't like that small a return.

Any of you guys think the 1/4 return would work with the pump speed reduced?

PS: Just got a return call from a friend who thinks the 1/4 return would work with the reduced pump speed. Not sure at the moment which way I'll go, but if I did, my lines are stainless and would require farrows to work. Probably easier to just run a correct size hose and be done. Just keep try'n to stay with the factory appearing look.

Ok maybe a noob question but was is the worst that can happen if you run the normal 1/4" return line?

I thought pumps were constant velocity to maintain the pressure required by the injectors. If the pump slows down then when the injectors open less fuel will flow through them which the O2 sensor says is "lean" so it holds the injectors open longer OR increases pump speed/pressure OR the built in regulator closes.

I thought the FiTech incorporated the regulator in the TB.

Anyhow, I'd probably go with what the manufacturer suggests - it increases the likelyhood of the unit working properly!

I stepped down from a -10 feed for the carbs to a -8 which splits into -6 to the TB's, I made the return lines all -6. It idles great, is nice and crisp. Reading the literature it suggested running the power through the FITech computer to the in-tank pump. The way I read it the computer will control voltage to the fuel pump to help regulate the pressure.
The Fuel command centre would be nice if you don't want an in-tank pump I suppose, I can't see any reason not to run an in-tank pump though.

Not to hijack, but just wondering what your 572 combo specs out like and hows it go in the car with the FiTech ?

I ditched the original 1/4 return line on my '69, used the original 5/16 supply as the new return, and installed a reproduction 3/8 supply. Fitech advised me that the 5/16 would suffice.
