Which shift lever for A-body four speed?

Which shift lever for A-body four speed? - 05/09/16 10:33 PM

Please recommend a shift lever for the A-body A833 in my '72 Dart. There is no center console (in fact right now I don't even have carpet) so I don't need the high-dollar "gorilla twisted" lever that came from the factory.

I have a nice dogleg Hurst lever that was in my last A-body nearly 30 years ago, but that one had a B-body transmission so it was in the right place relative to the seat and dash. Still have the shifter too, I think it's numbered 6393.

I'll be barking my knuckles on the dashboard every time I shift into 1st or 3rd with the one I've got. I could heat and bend but hate to mess up a shiny chrome stick. On the other hand I absolutely refuse to pay Brewer's $400 for a shift lever! down

Any recommendations? This one looks like it'd work:

I recently bought the factory replacement handle for a Hemi Dart off Amazon, it is listed in the Jim Schild book about Hemi A-Body's. I can get you the number tomorrow. wave

This one should work without breaking the bank:

Thanks... if I can find one, drilling it to fit my 2-hole shifter wouldn't be too hard. wrench

Meanwhile I emailed Wayne Brewer and he recommended this one:

Looks like there are several choices. I have fairly long arms and relatively short legs (6' tall and 31/32 inseam) and don't want to feel like I'm scratching my armpit either. I'm working on getting my Intrepid seats mounted, then I'll know where I stand. Or where I sit whistling
