Making A/C hardlines

Making A/C hardlines - 05/08/16 10:23 PM

I am in the process of putting Vintage Air in my car and instead of running rubber lines from the evaporator to the firewall, I want to make hard lines. I have seen the Vintage Air U bend it lines and will get those if I can't buy a tool to do it. I found Mastercool tool for crimping but not one big enough for -8 or -10. Any suggestions on where to look?

Not sure where to get them, but you will need a section of rubber line due to the flexing of the motor to the firewall, otherwise it will probably crack. twocents

Fluid Tech down in Sacramento can make you lines anyway you want. Just make them a drawing and show you what ends you want and you are golden. You probably want to have a portion of the line to be rubber for vibration and easier alignment.

I made all the a/c lines when I put air in the Torana.. I bought hardlines in a few various lengths and was able to make/bend them and use them at the lengths they were at and made all the rubber lines to suit too. (bought a crimper, fittings and hose) worked out really well.
With the hard lines, I just measured and planned out a bunch ahead of time to be able to use off the shelf lengths basically.

Can't remember off hand where I got the universal hard lines from...might have been classic auto air, or another place work would have to look back through and see if I still have the various catalogs around.

Summit Racing sells Vintage air lines, this is a link to one of them.

Classic auto air in Florida sells the bent metal lines in Al. I used their lines on AC upgrade on an E for that reason. For the flex line sections, I marked length and orientation and a local AC shop made the final crimp, evacuated and charged up the system. Works well.
