torque convertor: 727

Hey gang..
Friend posed a question and I was sort-of-puzzled.

Will the torque converter for a small block 727 fit into a big block 727? It is my understanding the input shaft on the tranny is the same, after all, isn't the basic difference between a small black 727 and a big block 727 the case?

If that's the case, then he would just have to have the appropriate flexplate for his application.. no?

I believe you're correct, although the year identity still matters on some older stuff.

66 and back had a lower spline count (18 i think) and 67 up had a 23 spline count. Don't quote me on those numbers, but its close. So yes, he could use the converter as long as he uses the correct flexplate or weights on the converter.
