This is a stupid question but I will ask anyway. How do you change the front shocks on a 2002 Durango? I have never changed them on a front coil over car before. I want to install a set of Bilstein's.

Must be a two wheel drive, as the 4x4's are straightforward and easily changed.

If the top side of the shock is a bayonett style make sure you use penatrating oil on it before you loosen the nut then clean the threads with a wire brush, then use a small wrench to hold the shaft and work the nut off. Trust me if you dont and try to muscle the small nut off it may damage the threads and the nut will lock up half way off then you will have to cut it off, this is what happend on one side of my 03, other side went fine when i did the above

It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes, you don't even have to jack it up.

The quickest way for me it to buzz off the bolts on the bottom and for the top use a 12-18" long extension with a deepwell, place it over the nut/stud pull it towards you, the stud snaps and the shock falls out on the floor, repeat on the other side.

If you get really bored check the balljoints, if it has more than 50k they probably need replaced too.

Thanks for all the replies. It is a 2 wheel drive Durango.
