c-body exhaust manifold question - 02/02/09 10:52 PM

I have a 78 Chrysler Newport with a 400. The car is my daily driver and I am currently removing the lean burn and replacing it with an electronic ignition and removing the smog equipment. I have a set of non HP exhaust manifolds off a (440) 71 New Yorker I parted out, that I would like to put on the 78 to replace the smog manifolds with air line in the back. Will these manifolds work in this car? I'm not concerned about them bolting up to my current exhaust because I plan to replace the exhaust system anyway. I just want to make sure they will fit in the engine compartment of the 78 with no issues. The log manifolds on the smog cars look different looking than the log manifolds that came on my 71 440 and my 67 440 do they flow any better?

They won't flow any better than the manifolds you have. You can look for a set of hp manifolds or try the hedman shorty headers. You will have to switch to the small starter though.
If I were going to replace them I would try to upgrade so you only do it once.

Thanks for the reply, I dont relly want to go with headers because it is driven daily. I have a set of HP manifolds from a 69 Fury cop car but I was saving them to use on my 67 New Yorker. I was just thinking of using the logs from the 71 440 so I could get rid of the air line going from the manifold to the air box.
