Wont the ethenol in todays fuels eat at the rubber?

It didn't hurt the gasket in my '64Dog.

Use a material that is resistant to ethanol and gasoline when you cut your gasket.

Is the sender bolt in? Or ring clamp style like the later cars?

Either way I would buy or make a gasket. Sealant and gas do not get along well and hard to get a durable seal w/o gasket. Good clamp on a gasket is the best with a thin coat of aviation sealer if the sealing surfaces are a bit rough.

The gasket for a 60's/70's car type sending unit is available if yours is the same.
