Factory cassette player/recorder

Factory cassette player/recorder - 02/25/16 01:05 AM

Need some help compiling my cassette player/recorder parts list for accuracy, while going over the list today I realized that Chrysler doesn't show a different part# for B/E body Auto & 4spd. pedestal floor mount bracket in either there 71 or 72 parts catalog & there is defiantly 2 types, they only show B/E-body #3501170 & C-body #3501171.

I have the complete 4spd. setup & only the Auto pedestal, the 4spd.bracket does not fit inside the Auto pedestal its wider along with also being longer on the r/side by about an inch whereas the Auto one is equal length on each side.

I'm thinking that maybe the C-body bracket is also used as the B/E-body Auto bracket its possible that the top of the trans tunnel is similar in shape as the B/E-body therefore the bracket is possibly the same part#.

Does anyone have a known B/E bracket & a known C-body bracket that they can check the stamped part# on & let me know, once I have the facts straight Ill post the parts list for everyone to have. Also any known A-body bracket part#.

Tnx Mike

I received this list from a member here named Turnie a couple of years ago. He got it from another Mopar site. I can't vouch for accuracy, but I hope it helps. -Lou

Cassette Part Numbers
cassette recorder was offered only 1971-73

3501045 recorder 3501512 in the 73 book

3501077 primary knob

3501078 secondary

4129GX9 upper shroud all Body styles

4124GX9 lower shroud all Body styles

4126GX9 pedestal shroud A body only

4130GX9 pedestal shroud /console E,B Bodies only

4127GX9 w/o console same as above

4125GX9 pedestal shroud C body only

3501046 microphone 1971-72 3501534 1973

3501151 demonstration cassette

3513143 wiring A body only

3501106 wiring unit to radio 44 inches all Bodies

3501107 wiring unit to radio 9 inches E,B Bodies only

3501501 Am/FM multiplex radio E Body used / cassette 1972-73 book

3501502 same as above C body 1972-73

3501053 AM radio 1971 only A Body

all above from the 71 part book dated January 1972 unless noted otherwise

The plastic shrouds were only serviced in black as replacements GX9 is black G is the year and X is black,9 is how dark it is.

The microphone had one change as the cord was either coiled or not.

These are the only things related to the recorder I can find.

NOTE: Except for the 1971 book which shows a DUAL AUDIO/INPUT 3501053 radio

there is NO mention of any radios for the 72-73 A Body models used /cassettes in

the part book. Also the shrouds for the A bodies only show up in the 1971 book. So

according to the part books the recorder was only available in the 1971 A bodies.

I had years ago the microphones /coiled cables and some of the shrouds that I ordered when they were available. Long gone now!

My 71 RR with a floor mounted cassette, auto column, has the original holes in the floor and it looks like it needs the offset one. Is it possible that the one on the right is for all B/E bodies floor mounting? I have two on the left and both cross to a C body floor mount PN.

I have the following radio and cassette player/recorder acquired years ago. After see your post, decided to dig it out.

Originally I was told it's for a C-body. However, I just entered the p/n (3501080) found on the cassette base cover and it appears to be for an A-body. I can't locate a p/n on the radio but it's cabled correctly for the player/recorder so it appears to be the one that goes with it.

Perhaps one of you who's more up on these radio-cassette P/R can help me out with exactly what this unit is.

Re: Factory cassette player/recorder - 05/24/17 05:43 PM

I may be wrong but isn't the one on the right for a no console set up and the other one is for a console mount. Shouldn't make any difference if the car is an e body or b body.

Does anyone know who repairs these units?

Yes, there is a difference between having a console and not. The mounts are different as posted in the pictures. Doesn't make a difference between E or B body neither. If my memory serves me correctly, I think Chrysler mad 137 with this option.

No, no one rebuilds these. There used to be but parts are so scarce anymore. I did have a site that you can order the belts for these but can't find it. I'm sure they're on my other computer that died on me and can't get it. There are 2 different lengths of belts for these

When it comes to console mount verses pedestal, here are the different plastic shroud bases.
First picture is the plastic base for console mount...notice the bottom lip about 1/2 inch around and the corresponding bracketry that mounts cassette to console.
Second picture shows the plastic base for floor mount..virtually same plastic base but without the 1/2 inch lip.
The console cassette base with the lip is the hardest item to find in my opinion.
Third picture shows the two together.
