Thermoquad ID Question. - 12/27/15 12:37 AM

Just curious if a 9196S thermoquad is a lean burn carburetor? I can't seem to find any information confirming this. Thank you in advance.

Yes, that is a Lean Burn TQ. 9196 =1979 360 AT F

Here is an NOS one on ebay. Not a bad deal for a brand new one in the box if it fits your application.

Thank you Scott. I already have one on the vehicle but, I've heard various things about the LB TQs. Anyways, I'm trying to figure out if this is the right carburetor for my application and want to make sure it is tuned correctly. Basically its a 79 360 with a 340 camshaft and 2.5" dual exhaust with Edelbrock Performer intake. The car has electronic ignition with the distributor vacuum advance plugged off. Car runs okay but, in the past I've been told that it would be better for me to use pre-LB carburetor or one from a truck. Thoughts?

A pre Lean burn carb would be better, yes. Trucks are better as well but if swapping you may as well get a good early carb. Pretty much any 1974 or earlier 6000 or 9000 series.

I just have another quick question. Is there a good site for a guide that spells out details about the model of Thermoquads? The seller of my Cordoba gave me two additional Thermoquads as spares to go with car but, need to know if they are for a LB (Lean Burn) application or not. I came across the one but, it doesn't list everything about the carburetor.
