Denso alternators on big blocks

Denso alternators on big blocks - 12/18/15 11:15 PM

I'm looking into options for mounting a Denso alternator onto a big block in my 70 Challenger.
Andy has a kit for the Toyota alternator, but that alt. only seems to come in 60 A form.
Is there another, higher amp rating, model that anyone knows of that will fit Andy's bracketry?

What other options are available?

I bought a kit from Mancini that Andy makes for a large Denso alt. This was a couple of years ago, so I'd check there. HTH, Steve

Companies like Powermaster have several high output Denso alternators. They have internal and externally regulated models. I bought my bracket from Mancini. The stock Mopar top bracket still fits but the bottom adjuster bracket is what's really different. It's got a different arch due to the smaller diameter of the alternator.

shorthorse,

Thanks! That is exactly the information I was looking for.
I put a Denso on my slant 6 car, and I had to mill down the mount a bit to get things lined up. Quite a pain surveying the engine.

I have the 120 A Denso with a v-groove pulley from a Dodge truck. With these drawings, I should be able to figure what modifications to make to brackets without another cumbersome survey.

Can anyone tell me if there's a two groove pulley Denso?

Here ya go!!!

I am running this with Andy's brackets, It's a 120Amp unit for a John Deere tractor, you have to just cut down the housing studs on the back and fits right in place! It's much deeper than a standard Denso, but everything else is the same.

Pulleys are readily available in all different configurations for Denso alternators. Just check your shaft size. Some factory replacement units come with the matching pulley and some units are sold without a pulley. With some aftermarket units, you specify what pulley you want and they will deliver it as you requested. When replacing or installing a new pulley yourself, do it per the manufacturers instructions otherwise you can damage the armature or the brush mechanism. NO Hammers!
