Removing 904 Tail Housing - 12/15/15 09:01 AM

Hi Folks,

I purchased a CRT low band RMVB and need to install the low billet servo kit. The resolution would be simple but I have an earlier V8 transmission, so I'm having trouble removing the housing with the standard instructions. The rear band has three bands and requires the tail housing to be removed in order to access the band adjuster (needs to be removed) so the billet servo can be installed. Any input or advice is appreciated!

Thanks,

Jon

Flat plate under the trans mount has 2 screws, remove them and the cover plate. Remove speedo gear housing retainer bolt, mark the speedo housing rotation as it is eccentric before prying it out. Remove the tail shaft bolts. Spread the snap ring under the previously removed cover plate, remove the housing. Pay attention to the location of the rear band anchor parts before pulling the band anchor shaft. It is only held in by an O-ring and can be worked out with needle nose or screw driver. Make sure to fill the cavity behind the low band shaft after reinstallation to prevent a leak later, I use a putty knife before tail housing reinstall.

I would add to the above, place the shift lever in Park (all the way to the rear) and turn the output shaft until it clicks into Park....makes the tailhousing easier to remove.
