Hey guys has any one on the form run a 7 in. wide wheel with 4 in backspacing on the rear of a 67 plymouth? If so how did they work out!

The 4 inch backspacing should work fine but tire size that you run on the will make the difference whether it has any clearance problems.
The more the tires puff out on the sidewalls can create clearance problems on the fender lips.

The wheels on my car are 15 by 7 with a 4.25 inch backspacing front and rear.

The tires are 235/60r15's on the front and 255/60r15's on the rear.

Hey thanks for the info, I found nice wheels that I like but they are 17x7 4In. backspacing I did not know if they would work, thats a very nice car that you have I hope I can get mine to that status!

Yes I have done it for a while. Currently have 9.00-15 slicks on them. 10 inch section width, 29.5 inches tall, they manage to rub somehow. More than a half inch clearance everywhere but rub the sidewall a little, I think because they are wrinkle walls. Never hear them and it doesn't damage the tire but always leaves a patch in one spot. I also had J60s on the same wheels, also wrinkle wall tires. Those were 10.7 section width and 27.2 inches tall. Same deal plenty of clearance but would rub on turns. I trimmed the wheel lip, really made no difference. But there is room. My sidewalls just give too easy I guess. Super Stock springs.

Sounds like they will work but will have to leave the dana out, I want a 28 in tire in the rear also, can't wait to get them installed and take a drive.

If you can run a little more backspacing you should be able to fit a 275/60 which is 28 inches tall IMO. You can probably do it on that wheel but they say to use an 8 inch wheel with a 275/60. You will need to measure carefully though.

My luck is the 17x7 only comes with 4 in back spacing, the 17x8 comes in 4.5, i did not know how the 17x8 would fit!

The 15 X 8 inch wheels on the back of my 67 coronet have a 5 1/4" backspace..

I would use 5 1/8 next time

What width Dana are you talking about?
What was it out of originally?

As I said before the tire width will also play into what will actually clear.

I had a Dana 60 built that was 1 inch narrower than the stock rear axle so I could use wider wheels without being limited to high dollar stuff.

I wanted to put the larger drag radials on the car that would fit in the stock wheel wells.

I went with 15x8 Summit torque thrust style wheels with a 4.5 inch backspacing.
The tires are 275/60r15 Mickey Thompson Street Radial Radial Pros.

I've driven it over rough roads, rail road tracks and haven't had the tires rubs yet.

Using the stock width rear axle from all my measuring as was stated above by minivan if you use a 15x8 wheel a 5-1/8 backspacing would be ideal. 5 would probably work.

Using a 17 inch diameter wheel shouldn't change anything, but the tire width will be critical.

My dana is out of a 69 charger so its wider than the 67 stuff, no problems with the magnum 7 in 4.5 backspacing but only a 235/60r15 tire, looks like I need to be careful on tire and wheel selection. I think the 17x7 with 4 in. backspacing is out!

Man you have no room to spare with those drag radials, your wheel well is full, my hemi 4 spd would love that

The rear street tires in the pics are 255/60r15's (redlines from dbtires.com).

Since I've swapped the 1 inch narrower than stock Dana 60 (with 4.10 gears) I've been thinking that the next street tires will be either 275/60r15's or 255/70r15's (on the 15x7 rims) to cut down the gear ratio a little for highway driving.

The car has a 572 Hemi/727 auto combo so it like to eat a lot of fuel.

Man thats great I took my 3.54 dana out and installed a 67 2.96 posi to just go places it had 14 in rims, and my 472 hemi likes gas, no fun sitting at the gas pump or in traffic in the heat with the top down, had to change the gear so i could ride!

Hey thanks for the info it will help me make a good choice. I never seen a wheel rub its always the tire so you are correct on picking the rite tire!

On my car.... With a stock width rear end, 7" wheels with a 4-1/4" backspace is dead centered in the usable wheel space. I'm currently running 15x8's with 4-1/2" backspace, which moves the wheel 1/4" outboard from centered. A 255/60 should fit, but a 275 will be hit & miss. I see that sputnik is running them, and I'm very interested in the pictures he posted up. I think from car to car, though. results may vary with 275's.

Just to clarify, In the post where I talk about the 275/60r15 drag radials I state that for that combo I had a Dana 60 custom made that is 1 inch narrower than the factory rearend and be able to use 15x8 wheels with a 4.5 inch rear spacing.

The pic with the 15x7 magnum wheels the car has 255/60r15 tires and those pics are with the original stock width rearend.

okay, I missed that Rich. You can disregard the PM I sent you then. I did see that it had a Dana in it, which made me think there may be some changes with the width going on there. To re-address the OP; 15x7's with 255/60's is a perfect combo with these cars.
