Is a 72 and 73 K frame the same? What about SB and BB, does that make a difference?

72 is way different than 73. 73 is when they went to the isolation system.
72 sb and bb are the same but 73-8 has different frames for sb and bb

72 and 73 K members are completely different.

No, and if you use an oil pan from a 72 or earlier BB in a 73+ it hits the K-member.
Guess how I know...

iagree totally different. 73+ = rubber isolated + different engine mount perches (welded on from factory) for SB and BB.

Are you using stock BB spool mounts in a SB k-frame? I have to ask because I have a 440 in my car and a generic 440source deep sump pan and it clears totally fine. When I bought my car it had a stock (1976 passenger car) 440 oil pan on it that the last guy had hammer to clear the k-frame because he did not use the proper conversion motor mounts when he put the 440 in where the 318 was. After I put in the conversion mounts from engine-swaps.com everything fit perfectly.

It's a numbers matching 400 so I would assume that it has the correct K-Member & mounts.

From what I can tell I'm supposed to have a "971" pan but what I actually have is the cheap one that Summit says will fit everything;

Odd, this pan fits mine perfectly. Good clearance between pan and k-frame.

As mentioned previously 72 and 73/74 B-body K-frames are totally different.
73 and 74 big block and small block k-frames are also unique having different motor mount off sets on the k-frame (see pics). Seems to me someone had also mentioned and provided pics of an early 73 k-frame with 72 style motor mounts.

You've got to wonder how much difference there really is between the BB and SB K frames especially after looking at the pics...I know the Schumacher conversion is basically just lowering the mount on one side..

The MP Chassis manual gives the specs, so it'd have the info you are asking about.

All I can say for certain is after switching from mid 70's BB spool mounts to the conversion mounts my 440 moved forward and down. Oil pan fits proper now, gained a smidge of hood clearance, fan is more parallel to the rad now, transmission mount fits better where before it was at its rear most adjusted just to get it to thread. When I got the car, the column shift linkage was cobbled and welded but I don't know if that had anything to do with having the wrong motor mounts. Normally I'm not one to sit there and crow about vendor's products, but fitment is night and day.
