I cleaned mine today and when was looking at the service manual for torque specs I noticed they didn`t recommend cleaning it. They also said to keep silicone away from it too. Why? I was careful and it runs fine now. BTW, I was surprised that it really wasn`t that bad. I thought it was going to be caked on but it was fairly light for 88,000 miles.

you can clean it but make sure to keep the solvent away from the throttle motor as it will kill it- not cheap to replace and especially by mistake! When they're carboned up it will cause a few different maladies like stalling and such. Torque? maybe 15 ft lbs as the fasteners aren't all that big so just snug works good for those so no vacuum leaks...

The manual stated 105 inch pounds. That surely seemed tight enough. It was starting kind of funky. It seems ok now. I guess I will see if I hurt the motor or not.. BTW, I`m pretty good at creating more work but goofing crap up.

I did this recently on mine, a 2005 with 59,000 on it. Like others said, FSM is adamant about keeping solvent away from the throttle shaft where it can leach into the motor. I cleaned mine with a toothbrush damp with solvent. At any rate, I would guess it's pretty hard to do real damage unless you submerge the thing for quite a period of time.

You'll know if there's a problem...
