EZ EFI or Carb?

EZ EFI or Carb? - 10/29/15 02:28 AM

Guys I am currently in a position to buy a carb or F.A.S.T EZ EFI for my W2 340 Cuda. I have been running my 650 Demon for now, but it needs more fuel. I figure I went with W2 heads, ported and polished by someone we know grin .... roller cam and rockers, TTI headers and I already installed an MSD distributor (6AL ign) and a wide band A/F setup so why not finish what I want. I'm getting the itch to to inject it. I've heard mixed reviews. Please give me your thoughts and experience. If I get the fuel delivery right and avoid and voltage drops I was hoping I'd be happy. My intial set up probably won't be an intank pump (I'll need to modify mine buy one set up....choices?). Thoughts??

I run EFI on my '70 Challenger and love it. I passed through your neck of the woods on a road trip IL-CA-IL not too long ago. It did great in the mountains and deserts. No issues at 7,500' and 32F and 0' and 95 F on the same day.

As far as fuel supply, I had earlier tried a stock type tank and frame rail mounted high pressure pump. That was a no go. The pump was noisy and worse than that failed twice. High pressure pumps do not like to suck. I went to an in tank pump. In tank pump or remote sump with low pressure pump feeding the sump and sump feeding the high pressure pump is the way to go.

There are a number of options for in tank pumps including a modified OE style tank. Remote sumps can be purchased or homemade. If you go EFI I would strongly recommend one of these options.

Installed a FAST EZ 2.0 on the 512 in my 69 Bee early last spring. So far 3,300 trouble free miles and loving it! My recommendation go for it.

For the same price you can do a Spectra Tank with a Warbro pump that would look stock. Have you replaced your tank? I am in the process of replacing mine but used a Tank, Inc with a Warbro in tank pump.

The seller at $407 is out of stock however.

Not a package deal but a la cart so you can size the Warbro for what you need

If you don't mind the look, something like this feeding right into an in-line EFI pump would do the trick on the cheap.

Or you can buy a new stock tank for 150 bucks, cut a hole in the top and install a sump and your own provisions for a universal in-tank pump.

Or make or buy something like this for a stock tank. Looks like the install would be pretty easy.

I installed the Phantom 340 kit in my Super Bee's tank this past spring.

The kit is high-quality and well thought out, but if you do it like they say (just drill a big hole in the tank), the kit will obviously just hit the trunk floor at the highest spot. I ended up spacing my tank down from the trunk using some thick rubber mat, but I'm not completely happy with it like that. The ideal way to do it would be to cut and weld a section of the tank to be lower and then install the kit into that section, but that was more effort than I wanted to do.

If I had to do it again (and if it had been available at the time), the Tanks-inc factory style tank is absolutely the way I would do it.

Bragging rights! If I say I had a six pack efi on my car, doesn't that SOUND better than I have 2 barrel CARB?

UPDATE: while adjusting to ensure anequate idle vacuum I saw a difference in my Autometer, and shop gauge, I'll figure that out later....

A car I was eyeballing a state away is now suddenly within reach so this is upgrade is on hold. If I get that car, I'll sell a spare "driver" I have stashed and the parts for it, restocking some car cash. Purchase is a week out

Re: EZ EFI or Carb? - 11/14/15 06:41 PM

I`d get a bigger carb and get it properly tuned/modified.......WAY cheaper and more dependable when set up correctly.......

Glad to hear that, sad to hear that. I was hoping to learn from your experience.
Have my injection tank wired but not plumbed. Gauge works...at least on empty. Still getting the return from the pressure regulator routed and connected. Old tank is is gone and disposed of. Could not get the sender out of it due to corrosion. Going to work some more on it tomorrow, looks like that last decent day for a while. Snow coming on Monday.

Why not try these guys? I've talked to the owner and have ridden in many cars that have autocrossed with them. They're pretty affordable and they're handheld system is great!

MuuMuu THANKS. It's time to do a little research on these.

EDIT: The Command center option is sweet, if your fuel pump goes out I bet you can swap it road/track side pretty quick..... I like this

I'll watch the video when I get home. THANKS AGAIN

Cheaper? Yes. More dependable? I doubt it.

I think I would use the holley terminator if I were going to go with a TBI/EFI deal in place of the carb, because it can be manually tuned later if you feel the need to.

If you have the wiring/electrical knowledge/cash, I still think you're best served by a multi-port setup with a standalone. Something like MS3 or a holley dominator efi.

I'm running multi-port efi with the MS3 Pro. Once you get it set up, do a bit of tuning, it's amazing. The car runs amazingly smooth.
