95 stratus won't crank after small fender bender - 10/10/15 02:29 PM

95 stratus got in small fender bender on left front. Now it won't crank. All lights work battery good, if you have the headlights on they don't dim when cranking, it does not do anything like it is.not in park.

Is there an inertal switch for the starter? All engine fuses good. Haynes manual said something about a disable link, but I did not see one. No power to starter sonoid when cranking. Sounds like neutral safety switch or some safety system

Any thoughts?

That should have a fuse for the starter solenoid/relay circuit thats either in the PDC under the hood (which is where I think it is) or in the car in the fuse box. Ron

If the positive batt cable has two main leads, make sure there's no corrosion under the crimped lead terminal itself at batt.

Make sure shift linkage is not affected. Linkage is in l/f of eng compartment.

There are 2 fuse boxes under hood ( they are side by side. Ck all fuses and relays in both.)

The battery grounds to the stud on top of the left front strut tower , remove both leads and clean them . It also goes down and grounds to the left side of the transmission case under the left side trans mount bolt

Positive lead goes to a stud on top of the fuse/relay bank

The trans linkage and electrical connector are on the drivers side. make sure it didnt break the plug off where it connects to the trans ( seen it before on accident victims)

There is no enertia swich on a stratus

Is there a G force cut out/shutdown switch in this car? Do you think the bump was hard/firm enough for it to activate it if there is one there? Can you tell if the fuel pump is running when you turn the key to start? If no fuel pump sounds/running you might have activated the G/shut down switch. Just another thought.

This made me remember that he is right about the two PDC boxes which means Power Distribution Center as thats what Mopar calls them under the hood and they call them fuse boxes inside the car. But the two under the hood should be next to each other and one of them is not easy to notice as I believe the battery cable just about goes over its lid. But I remember very well the Stratus had a fuse under the hood for the starter solenoid circuit so make sure you find and check both boxes under the hood. Ron

Well, Bill you were right

It was the neutral safety / range switch that was broken off;

It appears to be a 3 pin connector, I will need to find one and the connector as it broke in the crash as well...

It looks like this just screws in from the outside - I assume I don't need to pull the trans pan?
