TTI exhaust system

Anyone else have problems with the TTI exhaust systems fit? I bought everything headers back for a 70 b body. Love the headers. But the system is not close. Off center big time. And the mufflers are about 3 inches too far back for the hangers. Going to go see what we can do today to make it fit better. Never again

I recently installed 1 7/8 TTI headers and an X-Pipe system from TTI in my 72. 400 motor so it's a low block system. It really is one of the best fitting systems I've ever used. If I would have read the instructions fully at first it would have been even easier because they advise you to remove material at rear of X and I started with removing material from front of X. I get what your saying about at the rear of the mufflers. I used their big hangers to hold behind the muffler up and another clamp to secure the muffler to front of the tailpipe.

How did you install it? IIRC, most people said they had better luck installing from the back, forward. Also, is the engine in the correct position?

for the price of their kits they should jump out of the box and self install. My friend bought a system for his 69 4 speed RR and all kinds of problems. He ended up cutting and re-welding them in a few spots.

I have 2 systems on 2 E bodys both fit and function great since 1988 when I installed my first system.

I had trouble on my first install, I left it sit for months because it didn't fit right.

Finally a friend came over and helped me. Turned out I had some of it on backwards. There are little numbers on each pipe on the end that matches numbers on the piece it slips onto, on both of my systems. Once I matched up those numbers it fit like a glove. Read the directions and follow them is my advise and don't cut and weld anything because it will fit without all of that.

I am getting ready to replace my system on my 340 challenger that I installed in 88. The pipes are fine after all these years, just the mufflers are blown out and the headers are rusting. But not one leak in all these years.

If I had a dollar for every time someone told me or gave me a thumbs up because of the way my car sounds I would be rich. Money well spent IMO.

I used to work at an exhaust shop and ordered a TTI manifold back H pipe kit for my '70 Bee as most shops around here don't know what a V8 is and couldn't bend pipe anyway. I was happy with the fit front to back. I've learned from prior experience to deburr every fitting/ pipe end so that everything slides in and out of the mating piece. The rear muffler hangers took some adjusting to get both sides right and that was the only hassle I came across.
You've got to hang your tailpipes and mufflers first, then fit the middle pipe to the headers and muffler. Tailpipe spacing is critical- you dont want the axle housing smacking into it.

My TTI exhaust didn't fit as well as I had hoped it would either. The problem I found was my fault. Both engine mounts and transmission mounts were worn and allowed the engine to sit crooked. I replaced them with the Schumacher mounts and when everything was PROPERLY mounted the exhaust fit perfectly.

I'll be buying another system for my 71 Cuda

Mine fit my 63 perfect as I installed the whole system by myself in my driveway it fit so nice. You are sure they sent you the right system right ? Most that I hear of fit good by anything can happen. Good luck with it. Ron

has anyone had trouble getting what they ordered from steer and gear. I ordered something from them at the nats and they said they would put it in mail on the next day. I still haven't seen a month later. please share your dealing with them.

Another vote for fitting good! Started at the tailpipes and worked forward. Headers and exhaust system fit great on my 65 belvedere and haven't given me one problem. Expensive but I love the system.

Mine also fit great. 67 Coronet 440 ci with 2" headers. I didn't even need to lift the engine when installing them. But I did have the torsion bars out. Bought a 68 to 70 2 1/2 system with h pipe since I had the gear vendors unit and no spare tire well to worry about. It also fit great and I installed from the back to front.

Well got it installed. Still not super happy. Had to cut about 3 inches off the x pipe. Also it just didn't seem to fit very good. It will work. But that's the last time I buy a bolt in kit. Always been happy with their headers though

70 B-body tti Hemi 2&1/8" primaries, & 3" pipes. Had to drop the trains cross mount maybe 1/8-1/4" cause the pass side header was maybe an 1/8" from the T-bar.

The rest was the typical "bolt on" with some cut off of excess material, expanded the pass reducer a tad for better slip fit etc. Cut of the muff outlets ~1". Figuring out where to cut the tail pipe so the tti stainless tips can have a factory bumper over hang.

But when it came to the Huge tti muff hangers I just no likey, a bit Big and gaudy to me. So since I rotated the band clamps bolts out of sight to the 12 O'clock position, that gave me the excess bolt threads up there for mounting hangers completely out of sight. May not work for the OEM look, but works for me. Got about 1500 miles on'm, & no snagging myself on the typical hanger threads while creeping around for clean up etc.

Speaking of clean up, I see somp'n that needs a cleaning.

I put the headers back system with the H-pipe on my 6bbl Roadrunner and it fit like a glove.........

I have installed many TTI systems. I have no complaints. I will continue to buy them. I too don't really care for their massive muffler hangers although they are strong. Hard to get them to look level since Mopars do not have symmetrical hanger brackets on the car.

I have the TTi headers back thru their X-pipe and to the valence with 2.5" pipe. I used non-TTi mufflers and resonators so I had to trim a little here and there. I think that the quality is excellent especially the x-pipe. Their clamps are nice and I like the big muffler brackets! I did decide to paint the rear of the mufflers and the rear of these brackets high temp flat black. They are hard to detect from the rear of the car after painted.
I just told a buddy to buy the TTi system for his Cuda!

I put a TTI system on mt '65 B Body. Best fitting exhaust system I have ever owned.

I had a little trouble installing it at first...until I figured out I was trying to put the left side parts on the right side. Once I got past that, the system went together very cleanly and easily. A first rate product in mt book.
