Noisy power steering

Noisy power steering - 01/23/09 02:58 PM

So, I got a remanufactured power steering pump and installed it. i also had my TA PS box rebuilt by firm feel to a stage 3.

The box has a lot of slop in it. I also hear that power steering squeal sometimes when I go to turn the wheel. Not a belt squeal but a pump squeal.

Is there a way to check the pump to make sure it has adequate pressure. What is the cause of pump squeal. I know I have sufficient fluid.

Its not easy removing that PS box so I need to eliminate the pump as the problem before taking the box out and sending it back to firm feel.

Most hydraulic shops can test the pressure output of the pump. That would be my 1st stop.

if your box has alot of play then you know you have a problem there, either in the box or warn front end parts. id call firm feel and ask them. air in the system is typically what causes noise. how bad is the noise?

its sounds like when you have the wheel all the way to the left or right and try to go further.

I'll call firm feel and check with them

I was told its blowby of the o-rings in the pump, causing the impellers to cavitate making air bubbles

that causes it to moan as the air is compressed and does not have enuff pressure to work the load

so I was told by a hyd shop when I took mine apart and change the o-rings to stop it from leaking..which was were I dented the can and it would not seal

he then sold me a good pump and said dont take it apart

I get that too some times with my ?s
