70 Coronet R/T - RH inner fender bolt holes - used for?

70 Coronet R/T - RH inner fender bolt holes - used for? - 08/28/15 06:18 PM

There are 3 holes on the inner fender that are circled in the pic below. Anyone know what they are used for? The LHS does not have all three holes like the RHS.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Vinny

Yep. Behind the headlight area there is a part of the fender that attaches along the inner front with the 3 bolts. IIRC the repro inner fenders do not have the holes punched, so if you have replaced the inner fender from another car or its a repro panel then the holes will not be there.

But LHS does not have the same number of slot holes... that is why I was not sure what is secured on that side. I know the horns secure to the rad support.

I also looked at a 68 Coronet R/T and they have a pierce nut in those holes. I'm trying to find some older photos to verify, but I thought maybe Chrysler Corp. did not want to change the metal for the new model year and it was just left unused?

I have a '70 Superbee and the only hole open is the lowest. The top two are not punched out. Bottom hole has a bolt into a U nut in inner fender brace for bumper bracket.

Mine has three open holes on passenger side - none of them used for anything.

Driver side, bottom hole only, also not used.

There no upper holes on the drivers side?

Those holes are actually on/in the rad support. The inner fenders only have the cutouts around the holes. Both sides of the rad support have the same number of holes (3). And the repro rad supports have the same number of holes on both sides as well. If necessary I can post photos of originals and repros ... working on that stuff right now myself. Mine is a '69 RR but the rad supports and inner fenders are the same except for a Charger I believe.

Must be a production date thing.Only the lower holes are used and the majority of cars i've seen are this way.Rad support part numbers change for the 70 model year...early cars possibly used left over 69 stuff.Other possibility is a car thats been clipped or had a frame rail/inner fender unit swapped in.

Attached is a photo of the driver's side inner fender prior to the restoration. This evening, I will locate and post a pic that clearly shows the LHS, but for now I located these two pics and there is only one slotted hole that the bottom as opposed to three like the left.

I have an early August '69 Lynch Road build, 26" Radiator Support. The fenders attached at the front of the Rad support. Those holes go into the wheel well.

I pulled the horns out to get a clear pic. Inner and outer shots. Nothing in the wheel well to attach with top holes on my '70 Coronet. Bottom bolt into a U nut at the bumper bracket brace. All original sheet metal.
