Re: 1970 HEMI Challenger R/T SE Registry - 07/21/15 03:45 AM

I'd like to know where the one my dad had went. Don't know the VIN but it was a executive lease from Chrysler. Plum Crazy, white side stripe, hood blackout, power windows, black interior, Ralley wheels, Hemi, 3.55 Dana, auto. I have some colorful history in it. As a 16 year old who took my drivers test in it I was in heaven.

My mistake, 3.54 track pac Dana. My dad let me create the order. I had selected 4.10, 4 speed which he nixed. It was also ordered with a luggage rack and shaker which did not show up with the car

I had always heard there were 37 automatics. How many 4 speeds? I had 37 also.

Re: 1970 HEMI Challenger R/T SE Registry - 01/30/16 07:21 PM

there are NO 3.54 DANA automatic cars it was not an orderable rear axle - the 4.10 DANA was an OPTION with 440/440+6/HEMI automatics 1969-1971.

there are an additional 4 - 1970 HEMI Challenger R/T SEs shipped new to Canada Y07. (additional EXPORT Y09 orders ??)

I have info on 43 of the 63 HEMI R/T SEs - with good tag info on about half - 4 are FC7 automatics (none have power windows), 2 also have the 4.10 DANA.

As I remember you could order a Track-Pak 3.54, and a Super Track-Pak 4.10. I believe it was option A-33? Could be wrong though as it was also ordered with a luggage rack and shaker. Came w/o the rack or shaker. Came with the standard R/T hood with the blackout treatment. It also definitely had power windows. This car existed. My dad was a stylist at Chrysler. He worked with John Herlitz who I believe had a Black Hemi Cuda convertible that year as a lease also.

Doug,
Track Pak and Super Track Pak are associated with the manual transmission.

With an automatic you would be ordering High Performance Axle Package (3.55 Mopar 8 3/4) or Super High Performance Axle Package (4.10 Dana 9 3/4)

there was/is a guy from the Toledo Ohio area that had 5 HEMI R/T SEs 15-20 years ago, don't know if they're still there.

FJ5 car
FC7 4-spd car painted TX9 black (IIRC "viperakron" built this car & raced in the Supercar Showdown series in the late-'80s)
TX9 black car painted FC7
(EF8 or FF4) green 4-spd car painted FY1 yellow
FY1 (w/green top & interior) car painted green ("viperakron" may have owned this one also?)

& he also had the cut-up/parted remains of another FC7 HEMI R/T SE car (hopefully this wasn't "dvw" Dad's exec. car, but it's from the neighborhood)

Don't judge the tag condition with the condition of the car...It is super solid B5, V1W, 3.55 This car was purchased from the original owner in 1975 (a school teacher from Norfolk, Va.) with 42,000 miles. It has been stored since. The current owner recently passed away and the car's future is in limbo at present. I first looked at the car around 1981 when the engine and trans were still in place. A running and driving car at that time needing only detailing.

Re: 1970 HEMI Challenger R/T SE Registry - 02/01/16 06:37 AM

thanks up actually that makes it 43 - I had the same car twice with a transposed pair of numbers "typo" (379xxx & 397xxx)
* no axle package on the above fender tag = 3.23s originally

VINs = 43 of 63
automatic = 20
4 - speed = 7
FC7 = 7
EB5 = 5
EV2 = 4
EF8 = 2
FE5 = 2
FK5 = 2
TX9 = 2
EW1 = 1
EB7 = 1
FY1 = 1

eek 8 have 4.10 DANAs (5 auto & 3 manual) boogie

6bbl, the guy is IN Toledo - I've been good friends with him since 1981, & he still has all FOUR cars. One is a black shaker car that he bought from Paul Suloff back in the early 80's, one is an F-8 4-speed car with green cloth/vinyl interior, another is a Yellow car with black interior, & the the 4th is Plum Crazy with black interior. He never had a 5th one - but 4 is good enough! I believe 1 or 2 of the cars are original color, & the others were color changes.

I'm going thru a stack of old car mags that I have. Lo and behold, the Jan. 93 issue of Muscle Cars has a Hemi RT/SE. It's an FE5, automatic, black/white houndstooth, manual windows, According to the article, it's a Pilot Car, Job # 12, SPD of 8/1/69. Don't know if that equates to VIN # 000012 or not?? Wondering if you are aware of this one.

Yep, Got the same magazine....I too have been scouring ALL of my hundreds of old mags from 1980 to present....neat to see some of the high dollar drop tops before they were restored and older owners.

I did see them.

Doesn't that indicate that the car originally had blue interior?

You would not have black interior with blue belts.

Dan I am no sure if you can shed some light on this question of the RT/SE Hemi's how many came with a fresh air hood N96. From my notes there is suppose to be 15 RT/SE N96 cars. I am aware of a 383 and a few 440+6 rt/se n96 cars.

Then my advice would be to take it to a good qualified mopar restoration shop. Not just any body shop or street rod shop. twocents
