B-Body lightweight hood hinge springs - 07/03/15 06:17 PM
I have an AAR bolt-on hood w/WO scoop attached. this is on a 66 Coronet. I would like to find proper lightweight springs that would allow me to not use a prop to hold hood up, but not cause hood warp. what should I look for and where?

There usually are lightweight springs available from fiberglass body parts suppliers.
What I did was measured the approximate length I needed and went to a hardware store and found what turned out to be very good springs. It helped to see what springs were supplied by fiberglass replacement hood manufacturers just to know approximately what to look for, but buying at a hardware store, they were cheaper and more quickly available (no shipping).

Here is a similar Moparts Post:
https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/ubbt...gs-use-not.htmlSupposedly, U.S. body Source sells lightweight hood springs.
http://www.usbodysource.comJeg's and Summit Racing also sell lightweight hood springs, though they seem to be listed as being for Chevy's. Not sure if they would work for you or not.

I used a pair of trampoline springs on the fiberglass hood on my 67 Chevelle and they worked perfectly. I had a couple extra ones laying around so I thought I would try them just to give me an idea of what I would need and they could not have been any better.

I bought my hood from VPN and they sell the proper lightweight springs as well. A little pricey but they work well.

VFN Fiberglass has them. That is where I bought mine with the hood. They come chromed. I would like to know how to remove the chrome and paint them correctly (so the paint doesn't come off from opening / closing the hood).
