Lets see your stereo installations

I'd like to see your radio/stereo installations. I don't know if anyone makes a cd player that will fit in the stock dash of a '72 Duster? I'm guessing it would be expensive.
I've seen some nice installations in the glove box but I really don't want to reach over that far to mess with it while driving.
I was thinking maybe a slide-out tray under the dash but it'd probably get in the way if I had to work on wires under the dash, maybe not.

I have a stock radio in my dash, I don't even know if it works.

Anybody have pics?

I don't have pics, I had an under the dash mount in my 73 Cutlass. Doesn't some company make a old looking radio with modern internals?

In the glovebox with a wired remote...nothing special...

Here's mine.
The main reason I put it there is because I have the slide down ashtray, so there was no room under the center of the dash.

No pictures but I can get one if needed. I choose to go with an Ipod and the small Mr.Beats Pill. The main reason and advantage for me is I can move it from car to car so I only had to buy 1 set up and it was fairly inexpensive. I can get up to about 7 hours on 1 charge which does most trips for me, I have working cigarette lighters in most everything so I can keep it alive indefinitely. Not a CD but as you know you can put what you want on it and it even has access to AM/FM if desired. My main concern was originality and expense due the body count needed. If I had it to do over I would buy the bigger pill.

They also make stereos with wireless remotes allowing for trunk mount and easy access to controls, speaker location would be the concern there.

This radio looks bone stock but it's got 180 watts of power and aux jacks . This is what most people are doing instead of installing aftermarket stereos , so their dash remains 100 % stock in appearance .

don't mean to hijack, were does one find the reverse shift pattern for the console shifter in this pic? need to buy one please? as for my radio no pic, but put a restro style radio in my 70 b body, it has a cord that I put in the ashtray, plug in my ubs close ashtray all looks good, I did by another correct radio plate to save my original one.

BigMoneyLewis and 72RoadrunnerGTX, what did your radios cost? They look pricey.

I'm starting to think the only affordable and easily accessible option is to carefully cut the dash for an affordable FM CD player. My Duster has a motor plate and 500" engine but other than that it's all stock steel and uncut or modified. Decisions Decisions.

is the plastic piece on dash were radio will mount replaceable? on my 70 road runner the "radio plate" didn't support the radio I bought from retro style (knobs on both sides) so I bought another radio plate from a member here, saved my original and slightly trimmed the piece I bought, can replace it with the original anytime

The plastic piece is just a trim piece, iirc the metal dash is cut to fit the radio perfectly and would not fit an aftermarket cd player without cutting the dash. I'll try to look at it more today.

We can convert just about any 60's-mid 70's radio to modern AM FM stereo with the ability to run up to 4 speakers , 180 watts total power with aux jacks for $ 469 including return shipping.
This is the way most people are going because they want the radio to remain 100 % original in appearance for car shows and judging etc. plus it just makes the car worth more to have an original radio intstead of aftermarket .

I liked the flexibility of it vs converting the stock radio to modern internals. The converted original radio still wouldn't have worked with the planned amps, subs, etc in my car.
The SST setup has mp3 & iPod jacks, CD changer, & Sirius. Can hook up external power amps.
The receiver can be hidden anywhere, and the faceplate is low profile so you can hide it easily. They say you can put it recessed in your sunvisor. I hid mine inside the console. Comes with a small bracket in case you want to mount it under the dash. Stock AM thumbwheel dummy radio is in the dash.
Comes with a small remote, too.

I have a stock AM radio/modern conversion in another car. Nothing elaborate. Dual voice speaker in the front with 6x9's out back. Conversion was performed by this company:

Your radio will work exactly as it does now . The five pushbuttons will work , the tuner knob changes the stations exactly as it does on your stock radio .On off vol, tone control all will work as factory . When you turn the radio on you are in FM stero , to switch to AM simply turn the radio off and back on . To play an aux device, simply plug it in and it will play ..
unplug it and it goes back to FM stereo . You can listen to satellite radio as well . And we can throw in blue tooth for an additional $ 25 . The radio I shown is a '67 GTX , but we do most all A B E body as well as most Ford and GM 1960-1974 .

I went with an affordable Kenwood KDC152 receiver, 3 way kenwood 6x9s in the rear package tray, and 4" 3 way kenwood speakers for the dash. I still have to decide where to mount the receiver, glove compartment seems awkward to me, even though it has a remote.

If this setup isn't quite enough I might add some 3 way 6" round kenwoods in the plastic kick panels by branching off the dash speaker wires, would that cause any problems?

Must not be too many stereo guys here.

I don't have pics of mine but I took inspiration from ma mopars options book. I built my own console/floor mounted tape deck box and put the aftermarket stereo in it. I used a underdash mount box assy. and attached a piece of sheet metal to make a bottom for it when turned over and used angle brakets for the mounting base. I'll try to get some pics of it up soon.

We were at the Goodguys show in Columbus last weekend and there was alot of cars with really nice Center consoles for their stereos, electric windows, cup holders, etc.

I did a wireless remote stereo in the glove box. I just powered up for the first time and it worked great with a tune trapper hidden antenna.

That looks really nice Finoke. I hate to lose my glovebox space but that does look good, I keep thinking the stereo remote will be a pain but maybe it won't.

Thanks ProSport. It's even worse for me with no console compartment. However, the remote is only 3"x2" and came with a small case to keep under the seat. The remote works great.
