Reverse MVB with stock slapstick? - 01/19/09 12:35 AM

Been wanting to know for a while if this is possible. I have a stock console/slap stick shift aseembly in my challenger with a Reverse manual valve body in the trans.

My 1-2 shift i have to do VERY gently so i do not go into 3rd. Is there a way to convert my slapstick to work with my MRVB?

Although probably not very helpful, there is a company that makes new plates to do just what you're looking for. I was looking at one for my Dart, but I can't for the life of me remember the website. Hopefully someone will post it, as it was a very cool product you can't really find anywhere else.

This is what he's refering to.

I've been contemplating the same thing with Gina's 72 charger. It's a Slap Stik and I put a RMVB in it as is a street/strip car. from what I've learned it's kind of sloppy going from first to second and the button must be depressed to go to third. I wasn't to thrilled with that idea so I've been trying to figure out how to get it to slap both ways without hitting the button or having the shifter miss a gear. (acctually have the shifter sitting next to me now )

In studying the action of the Slap Stik and how it works, and my reluctance to risk screwing it up, I've been contemplating Turbo Actions auto/manual VB. In manual it's a forward pattern that compliments the factory shifter well yet will let the wife drive the car like a normal automatic when she's not racing it. The thread below is a big reason why I'm thinking about the Auto/Man VB as oppsed to the full time FMVB.

BTW, the previous owner of the car used a FMVB W/ the Slap Stik and said it worked awesome.

Auto/manual VB ??? aren't ALL auto shift valvebodies able to be shifted MANUALLY ???

Yes, they are. Having shifted stock VB and even ones with shift kits and not being happy with their performance is why I posted my thread about it. I wanted to be sure that it hit as hard as the MVB's that I have and wasn't just another AVB.

Bottom line from the reseach I've done so far is that it it's the best of both worlds.

Unless you screw up and hit first gear at 80mph

I guess it depends on what the performance level of the trans is , a forward pattern manual VB is not as good as a reverse pattern , so I was told ...

my auto/manual turbo action forward VB works great. Nice crisp shifts. and it feels much better than the bm shift kitted vb I had in there

From everything I ve gathered here and when I asked this ques a few months ago, no.

I've been studying the shifter and the gate since OCT and still haven't come up with any way to modify it.

Re: Reverse MVB with stock slapstick? - 01/19/09 06:06 PM

I made one years ago by studying how the stock parts worked. You have to refile the 2nd and 3rd (former 1st) detents on the shift plate. As I remember I filed them upward (this was over 25 years ago). Then I fabbed the little spring loaded part that stops the the handle detent. It stops the detent in the handle and then pulls it upward. I know this is not a complete instruction. I built this when I first started hot rod stuff. I was young and had no money. It worded very well and didn't take long to figure out.
