Shopline JP Epoxy Primer - 01/18/09 06:35 PM

I applied Shopline JP377 Epoxy Primer to my car this morning. This is my first time using this type, the datasheet does not list how long to wait before I can wet sand it prior to topcoat. Anyone have any experience with this primer?

Thanks,
Jim

I'm not familiar with that product but if it's like any other epoxy i've used then you can topcoat within 12 hours to be safe without sanding. Epoxy's are slow and if you try to sand it to early it can be difficult. If you need to just nib it or sand out a run before topcoat use wax and grease remover instead of water. But it might take a few days to totaly dry. What are using if for? A base for surfacer on bare metal or sealer for topcoat/paint?

Hi,

Using it as a sealer prior to topcoat. For some reason there is too much orange peel. I want to get it smoother prior to top coat.

Seems a little soft after 2-3 hours. Should it be OK to wet sand with 600# by tomorrow?

THanks,
Jim

Depending on temp and how many coats you applied I would wait at least a day. Just see how it sands tomorrow if it doesn't gum up the paper or anything like that yousould be fine. It sounds like you are going to have to sand everything anyways so I would say the longer the better.
