68 R/R with decore Radio speaker Qs. - 06/06/15 10:43 PM

So I have the dash out and apart. The center speaker is there and hooked to a harness with some kind of box and two leads that look like they go to speakers in the corners of dash. The dash is cut out for about a 3in speaker on both sides. Was this factory? The holes are kinda rough looking but with the Mopar harness I have to think it is. Was there an option for this. I dont see any wiring in the rear harness but the package tray is cut for 2. I assume all trays had the cut outs.

Sounds like the optional AM/tape option, which included a speaker at each dash corner; pretty rare.
Yes, 2 speaker locations were punched in the rear package trays, some were oriented same direction, some not; a production-date thing, IIRC.

Rear speaker was optional, and only one,
other speaker hole is for rear window defrost option!

Yes, the AM/8-track would have 3 dash speakers but most I've seen have nicely cut holes in the dash. What's on the fender tag under the upper case "P" & "R"? Sounds like a possible dealer installation? shruggy

Thanks Dan. Fender tag shows nothing under the P and a Zero under the R. If it was a dealer option they would have to pull the windshield,Correct?? Seems a little unlikely. There is a tag on the harness says Chrysler 2889-534 and below that 95329. I have looked for Pics of the speakers but have found none showing the outer speakers. Finding speakers is not going to be a chore but the correct grills is going to be something else.
