Trunk coating question - 05/28/15 04:08 PM

I have my 69 Dart at the paint shop and the question has arisen as to how I would like the trunk finished. I wasn't sure what to say so I thought I would ask here what would be best. Should the inside of the trunk, and particularly the inner sides of the quarter panels, be coated with something or just painted body color? It has been suggested to coat the inner quarters with bed liner but I'm not sure what to do. Before the car was stripped, there was some sort of coating on the inner quarters but I didn't know if that was applied at the factory or afterwards. If there should be coating, I'm not concerned about factory correct in appearance as the car is not original anyway so I will probably just go with the bedliner idea if there is supposed to be something in there. Also, when there a coating, would it have been left it's natural color or would body color paint have been applied over it?

Originally - Sound deadner was applied before the quarters were welded on to the body, so paint over the top is normal.

I painted mine body color and used a "premium" re-pop trunk mat from Y1. Looks fine, protects the trunk which I do use, easy to clean, not too expensive. Also easy to pull the mat and keep an eye on the metal and maintain, modify or touch it up as/if needed.

bed liner would be a good substitute for the orig sound deadener IHMO, then paint body color over it.

What areas would have been sprayed with the sound deadener? Was it just the sides of the quarter panels from the rear of the panel to somewhere over the wheelhouses or was it applied to the underside of the top of the quarters as well? Also, were the trunk floors ever coated?
