X9 Black on GTX

X9 Black on GTX - 01/17/09 04:01 AM

I'm getting ready to paint my 69 GTX. Any recommendations on a black color? Everytime I see an X9 black car I wonder if that really X9 or some modern black paint like Dupont super jet black.

Use a GOOD quality paint and remember, the detail is in the prep. Block that car like you have never blocked a car before and you will LOVE the outcome. I am doing a triple black 69 GTX convertible right now AND it came with performance hood stripes (on the build sheet).

TripleX,

What paint did you use on the car in your sig? y 69 was orignially a T7 car with no V21. Its a real RS27 car but not matching numbers so I figured paint it how I like it. Black with performance hood paint. I was looking at Dupont Super Jet Black but its expensive (400 gallon) and it has a blue side tone to it.

Black Sheep has an awsome triple black GTX. The nicest I have seen. No disrespect to anyone elses. Here is his site with what he used.

Just my 2 cents but GTX's were never common and converts are scarce, IMO it should not matter if its numbers matching or not on keeping it the color it was born with, even tho black is more popular I would stay with T7, but its your car and whatever you do I am sure it will look nice.

69x, I guess I can no longer call myself a purist. I've had a hard time deciding on this very point but in the end if you don't like the color of the car you won't enjoy it as much JMHO. T7 is just not my favorite, no offense to any T7 owners. I have seen a lot of cool T7 cars. I have a TT1 68 Roadrunner. A lot of people don't care for that color but I love green cars myself. I appreciate your opinion.

Black is black. Although there are some variations. As long as the car is getting a complete paint job it wont matter. Plust if you ever have to get it repaired it will be a lot easier to match. We use basf products at my shop and I appled glasurit 22-1250 single stage Jet black to my challenger then clear coated it. It doesn't have any other toners in it. And besides nobody will ever be able to tell.

I used PPG black on my old 1971 GTX and it turned out awesome. It won 1st at the Nats and a Best of Show in Canada and was featured in MCG in October 2008. BC/CC. Lemon Twist now owns the car. I would not use anything else. PPG was the paint originally used on all our mopars. Here is a pic
