TTI- Nickel platied chrome or ceramic, Pros/cons?

TTI- Nickel platied chrome or ceramic, Pros/cons? - 04/19/15 03:12 PM

Looks like TTI has what I need, and Chicago connection has the best price (?)
For a street E body 4 speed what are the factors I should be considering, as the only coasted headers I ever had were Flowtechs on the 68 FB I had, and I had mixed feelings about the ceramic coating, granted flowtech is an el cheapo brand...
real world owners thoughts, and feel free to throw in any fitment/finish comments.
Thanks, Bear

ceremic will last and look much better over a longer period of time. ceramic coated inside and out will make the headers last longer.

I wrote a big check last year for a set of the top of the line TTI ceramic polished ones for my C body last year since they were one of the few that had a large primary set for a C body. They did indeed fit very well and could be installed with the engine in as well. It was tight but they can be worked in from under the car, it is amazing how tight the fit is in some places like near the torsion bar but they did fit with no "modifying" needed. I was most impressed by the coating as you said I have had ceramic coatings before and it was always "good way better then paint" but still its a header its not perfect. These TTI polished ones are INSANELY good it looks like a chrome almost ( a dull slightly chrome maybe ) and seems pretty bulletproof. I had a couple painted sets I had for other vehicles ceramic coated locally by our top place in town last year and it was MORE its was like $300 each set and they do not look near as nice as the TTI... They are expensive but you get what you pay for sometimes. I also got the full 3" system from them for the same C body and same story it fit like a glove pretty much and was top quality stuff with all the hangers, an H pipe, etc.

I have a set in the nickel-plated chrome that have been on there for 6 or 7 years, and they have been awesome. I've had the starter in and out twice without moving anything, I've never had a flange leak, they tuck up tight, and I didn't have to ding anything or even move the engine to get them on... and they still look decent, considering I'm not a detail freak that would waste a Saturday polishing a header. I basically put them on and have driven the crap out of the car.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: When I was looking for headers I was offered a used set of Hookers, and somebody on here said they would pick up cans on the side of the road to get money for a set of TTIs before putting anything else on. It took a little longer to save the money, but it was absolutely worth the investment. They are flawless.

I bought these TTI headers uncoated which is the cheapest way you can buy them. They are the normal nickle coating. We have a set of the nickle headers on my sons Dart that have been on it since 1997 and they look a little worse then these. His have some small rust spots but not bad for headers almost 20 years old. These here TTI's I put on my 63 in 2011 as they ahve been on my 63's eng for about 4 years. You can see they have blued a little but not bad as they are still in good shape. Yes the ceramic coated are better but it cost a little more and my budget was tapped out when I bought these as thats why I did not get them coated. But I have no complaints as they are holding up fine for being just the nickle made headers. Ron

Thanks much Lewtot, Jimbo, Bossride, and 383man.
Very useful information. Looks to me like it is all about how far you want to go with it. If I can afford it, I'll get the best they offer. THANKS!!!!

Please read the instructions. Some folks complained that they spent $$$ on the ceramics only to have them rust on the bottom at the weld joints. Lay a vapor barrier over the concrete floor to prevent moisture upward onto the headers. Been doin that ever since and no rust visible after 10 + years. Winter months are more prone.

Contact Mike R. at miker@ttiexhaust.com or call (951) 371-4878, TTI only does the custom orders around October. Add "SS" to the end of the item number. I had them bend a complete stainless steel exhaust system from manifolds to the tips. It was only a couple hundred dollars more then the aluminized system.

can u explain a little more about this, I went as far as to call tti and asked if I can pay extra for stainless and ball sockets they said they couldn't. Its funny just about any brand makes late model headers out if stainless and ballsockets but the AFtermarket for the old cars is still stuck in the stone ages
