Duster Hood Scoop Question??? - 01/14/09 06:14 PM
The twin scoops you see on a '71 Duster. Were they factory fresh air or just decoration?
Thanks

Did you know that they were only available on Duster Twisters? Low performance 318 and /6 engines only. There was no connection to the carbs or air cleaner, just a small hole underneath each scoop. So, yes, they were fresh air, sort of, but I'm sure they made no difference at all in performance.

Were the twisters /6 & 318 only?
I am buying an original 340 4 speed car and was curious about what the options for hoods would be and whether they would have had actual fresh air.
thanks for the help

No 1970-71 340 Dusters came with hood scoops, it was not optional, only on the Twister (yes, /6-318 only).

Scott,
I had a '71 Twister 318 car in the seventies and I don't remember any holes under the scoops. Are you sure the Dusters had them?

The Darts & Demons had the holes for sure, Twisters may not have, It's been too long since I've seen an original one (unmodified, original, etc.) for me to recall.

My brother has a 71 Duster twister and a 71 Demon 340. Both were unmolested when purchased. Both have the fresh air cutouts.
