GM 1-wire bracketry for '68 440 Charger with AC?? - 03/04/15 05:02 PM

I've got a '68 Charger here....has a 440, factory AC and PS with factory bracketry...Does anyone make a bracket to install a GM 1-wire alternator?? or is there a really good/reliable alternator with built in regulator that bolts right in??

Thanks!

Powermaster has new high amp 1 wire alternators bolt on replacement for Mopars now.

Powermaster has 2 basic offerings. A square back case rated ~75 amps and GM guts in a Mopar compatible case rated 140 amps. Both are available in 1 wire. The square back case will bolt right up and has marginal idle output ~50 amps. The GM guts alternator has ~ 80 amps idle output and is a tight fit with the heads at the output stud. No go with Ed heads in my application (400 core, factory brackets, with AC). It may fit with OE heads.

There are newer offerings that are advertised to fit and spendy (Flaming River, Green Alternators, Others). I am currently running the "big Chrysler" 100+ amp alternator with matching brackets from my core '78 Cordoba 400 engine. Good output and heavy.

Powermaster would be your easiest bet....before PM came along I didnt have a choice (okay, I did) but I installed a 10si Delco 100a on my 440, no A/C though. Custom bracket out of stainless and then used the upper alternator bracket from a small block as the lower bracket for the 10si. Works great

I've used the 140 amp Powermaster on a 440 with zero problems. There is also a Denso 120 amp kit I've used from Andy F that you can buy from Mancini which works great as well.
