Aluminum intake for my 340?

Aluminum intake for my 340? - 02/21/15 06:58 PM

Looking for a LD340 as they I know they are a great all around performer and looks close to stock. But, prices seem kind of high lately, so I've been looking at alternatives and want to keep the stock coil location.

My choices are.

Weind 8015 or the 8022 stealth intake.

Can anyone tell me if the ports are correct for stock X-heads, or will they need ported to match?

What's wrong with something like a performer RPM?

8022 stealth or edelbrock performer RPM intakes will give very similar results to LD340.

If looks are a concern, pick between those two what works for you.

8022 doesn't have coil mount bosses like an LD340. 8022 is a good intake with some jetting quirks.

Good point.

Edelbrock 7176 has coil mount bosses:

Here's a stock 68-70 340 intake and a 71 to the left:

Original poster asked for something that "...looks close to stock."

He's looking for an aluminum intake that looks as close to stock as possible.

The LD340 doesn't look that close to stock to me, with the front runners reversed and taller.

Closest thing to stock is the Mopar M1 dual plane below that is I think out of production.

The Stealth is a good intake. Felt better even on my car even before I port matched it, than the RPM Air Gap. For the coil I just mounted mine on the firewall.

One bad part about the stealth is that the port sizes vary greatly on the same manifold. In general they are 318 sized instead of 340/360. Though when I got around to port matching mine I would say 4 needed a lot of grinding, 2 some grinding, and 2 were already almost the larger port size.

That old MP intake gains nothing except loss of weight. Pretty much a 340 intake done in aluminum.

I've thought about the MP replacement. Noticed on summit that the design may have changed on the water neck that looks really weird. Can anyone verify this to be true? Did they do a design change?

looking at the MP intake posted above and the one in the link they are different.

t-stat and by-pass hose locaction changed.

looks to be more magnum t-case freindly on the by-pass port.

looks like no a/c either.

I like the LD4b/LD340 and the Holley street/strip dominator intakes best over all on my street junk. the LD340 is on par with the RPM air-gap with the LD340 only a couple # below modern RPM intake.
