1969 B Body drum to disk brakes - 02/19/15 06:46 PM

I want to install disks brakes on a 69 Charger,, I want to use my original spindles, and I would like to keep my booster.. Also I have 11'' drum brakes on it now,, I see Summit has some different kits.. I would like to know what would be my best bet.. I just drive this car,, not a racer.. I have 15' mag wheels.. What do you think? Thanks for your help,,

some thoughts.

your original booster is a single diaphram booster. It does not produce enough boost for disc brakes.
It will stop, but you will not be able to lock up the wheels during a panic stop at all. not that built in "abs" is a bad thing, just pointed out you will not have full stopping power.

reusing your old spindles, means you want a conversion kit. not sure why you want to do this. for the same cost you can get disc spindles.
Regardless, if you have filled your wheel wells with tire, that is you are on the edge of your fender already with big front tires, be aware, that most of the conversion kits will push your wheel out.
most people don't notice unless they have large enough tires to see they now go past the fender.

the go to guy for this is dr diff on this board. he should be able to hook you up with what you need.

If you are really stuck on keeping your drum spindles and booster, this is the only kit I know of off hand that will let you do that.

http://ecihotrodbrakes.com/dodge_plymouth_discbrake_conversions.html

It uses GM calipers that have a piston size compatible with the pressure a drum booster can generate.

Is there a reason you don't want to go with disc spindles and booster?

A-body spindles I would assume are getting scarce but there should be late B, R, and FMJ spindles that are easier to source.

Best choice is to get a kit from www.doctordiff.com

i used SSBC on the front of my 68 Satellite , used the drum spindle and booster . It was quite alright .Still going strong since 2007 though I have now removed the booster .
I have also used Wilwood on a 69 Roadrunner , drum spindle, and bought a reman/repro dual mopar booster to go with it .

S.S.B.C. on my 69 Road Runner was (manual drum front and rear)/(went to power disc front original drum in back), been happy so far with the set up and was an easy install.

I'm not really stuck on keeping my original spindles.. I was looking for a easier way out.. What about Just getting a new set of drums? I might go that route.. A lot easier.. I would be have to find one of those older cars..
