440 differences - 02/17/15 05:20 AM
What differences, if any, between the 440 motors of an e body and a c body for the 1970 year model?

I would think the C body 440 would be a low po 350 horse 4 bbl version and the E body one would be a 375 horse HP one (if 4bbl) or a six pack (390 horse?)

I'm not as knowledgeable as many here, but I'd guess that the exhaust manifolds would also be different. Possible differences in P/S mount and oil pan too.

An hp motor would have the heavy rods and matching special harmonic balancer

1970 c-bodies could be had 350-375-390 hp
1970 e-bodies could be had 375-390 hp
motor mounts are the same
RH exhaust manifold is the same on 375-390 hp engines (others are different)
"187" c-body oil pan will fit in an e-body, "HEMI" pan from a 440 e-body will not fit in a c-body

A 70 C body could still have a TNT 440 if that C body were a Chrysler. That engine is a match to the 440 Magnum/Super Commando.

Spark Plug wires have different retainers and management hardware. Air cleaner will have different pie-pans.
