Ordered up a 2 pin switch for our 72 cuda from Classic. Thought ours was a 2 pin. Turns out the passenger side is a 2 pin but the drivers side is a 3 pin. Classic only offers the 2 and single pins. Our wiring is 2 yellows and 1 black wire. Was thinking can I put a spade on both yellows and one on the black and attach it like a 2 pin? The part number at Classic is SW90. My thought is its an open or shut switch so running the 2 yellows together would work. Any ideas? Anyone else run into that? Our old one was hashed and not really there.

71's used a three pin switch I think. Is it an early production 72?

I built a 3 pin switch out of 2 or 3 switches to work in my 71 drivers door. I can't remember exactly but I got the switches from the local auto part store after hunting through catalogs.
It does not look stock but works.

You are going to have to consult the FSM. Some door switches go to ground, others switch all of the wires to each other and others do a combination. The factory used the unusual switch for a reason and just tieing them together could lead to back feeding power to other circuits with unwanted results. Kind of like the ground issues that have driven us crazy trying to figure them out.
I have a 72 FSM at home and will try to remember to look at it when I get home.

They are 3/8 threads which are the smallest ones.

It's what you need.
Talked to Jamie at Megaparts. He is contemplating buying a few NOS ones and getting them reproduced! Thats great to hear!

Finally looked at the manual. All three go to ground. The black wire is the headlight on buzzer. One yellow is the dome light and the other yellow is for the time delay lights on the ignition switch and headlight switch as well as the map light. They all look like they would back feed to other circuits if tied together. If you have a two circuit switch, tie the black wire to one switch lug. On the other switch lug, hook two 1N4001 diodes non bar end. Hook the bar end of the diodes to each of the yellow wires. This will isolate them. You can buy a bag of diodes from Radio Shack cheap. Part no 276-1653.
Without the isolation, on my car anyway, the map light switch would blow the dome light fuse.
