1963 dated T10 Borg Warner

1963 dated T10 Borg Warner - 01/27/15 07:12 AM

I have a T10 transmission dated 5-17-63, which I'm sure would have been dropped into a 1964 build car with that late of date. how can I tell if this thing came in a MOPAR, GM, AMC ? are there numbers or letters to look for?

I guess what I should be asking is for dates from people on MOPARTS that have them in their '63 cars, and date codes. I suppose this could have come in a very late 1963 Plymouth or Dodge.

Mopar only Borg Warner T-10s used a trunnion joint for 1963 model year. 1964 New Process 833 trannys still used the trunnion. That's all that was the same..
The T-10 was built very specific for a mopar bell-housing. Also mopar T-10s have longer tail shafts than their GM cousins.

so with the little info you provided, I would say it's a May or June built '63 but what one, A or B-body?

The early ball and trunion type tranny flanges where bolted, held into the tranny output shafts by a large nut and a locking flat flange type washer. They had 4 studs that the driveshaft end slip over and was held onto the tranny output flange by nuts. Do you have a picture of your T10 output yoke or flange? All the other brands back then had went to slip in type tranny yokes that used standard U joints, not ball and trunion U joints like Mopars had that year

The only way you can bolt on a yolk is by frying it first.

Easiest way is to look at the input shaft; to my knowledge nobody else but Mopar used the 23-spline with the long 3/4" pilot.

I did find out on a T10 rebuilding site, that the old 63 or 64 Buick with the 215 V8 had the bolt on yolk. thanks for all the replies. Now, wasn't that fun!! Happy Days!

Never knew that.. I've owned a few '63 T-10 Furys/Belvederes but no A-bodies. What DID Chrysler use in them?

I remember a kid in high school that had a new 1961 Hyper pak Valient with the 4 barrel and 4 speed, weren't those Borg Warner T10 4 speeds?

The Mopar T-10 was '63 only and B-body only. The '60 Chrysler 300F used a French Pont-A-Mousson 4-speed, that's the only 4-speed prior to '63.
