after much thought, i think it'll be safer to replace the cam...

i was going to call up crower since my valvetrain is mostly crower parts, but thought i'd get some opinions on the board first. I'm tight on budget so looking to get a cam that will work well with the parts i have and also can't afford the cam degree tools, so one that i could install according to the timing marks would be great.

1966 383 bored 30 over, stock stroke, L2315F pistons, stock ported heads, F5054 intake valves, f5055 exhaust valves, 84032 342lbs springs, 64770 adjustable rockers, weiand dual plane intake, 750 demon carb, headers, auto trans with 2800-3000 stall converter and power brakes...

any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated

i like the comp cams xtreme energy 268 hydraulic cam, but hey, that's just me.

the cam tools aren't expensive, and some companies will rent them to you, with a cam purchase. the degree wheel is the big part. pointer can be homemade, and you can improvise the measuring tool for the pistons.

There is NO GUARANTEE that the cam will line up and be installed correctly via the timing marks .

Harbor Freight sell a dial indicator and base for pretty cheap. Erson cams used to sell a degree wheel for around $7 many years ago. Shop around or ask to borrow one. If you epoxy/JB Weld fill an old lifter and file/grind it flat it will work. And, yeah, a piece of wire and bolt will make a pointer.

Be sure to mark the lifters for which lobe they went on, that cam is something I may be interested in. But there is another option and that's Bullet Cams. They'll regrind it for something like $60.00 Then a new set of lifters and you're off down the road.

I believe it is Tim who many here have dealt with.
