Throw the chrome away, they are leakers, and get a new stock style neck. If you sand the chrome off flat and use sealer you may get it to stop leaking but it's a pain in the tail parts with no guarantee.

I know that this isn't a cheap solution . . . BUT - it WORKS !!! O ring seal !! Just need to use the 80's & up smaller size thermostat :

Well worth the money in my book !! No seepage, no leak . . . engine paint looks great !!!

Just my two cents worth . . .

Cheers,

Fran I have a billet one from Mancini on my car and a Superformance gasket from Greg He also makes a gasket that will seal the leaky chrome ones once you make sure it's flat

The chrome one is a POS...
Made in China, never seals even when sanded smoothly, double gaskets..
U can spend the $ for a better billet one from Mancini...
Or go to Napa for this cast OE type for about $6.....
Part # BK 6051051
See the attachment..

Just my $0.02...

How are you sealing it? I had this problem and I was using a gasket and clear silicon. My engine builder told me to throw away the gasket and just use good clear silicon. Allow it time to cure. I left it a day. The water neck hasn't leaked since. It's been 8 years.

Aluminum OEM type housings are like $6 from most discount auto parts stores. I think the last one I got was from O'Reilly. Worked just fine.

I've always had good success just sanding both surfaces flat and sealing with silicone. No cleaners or solvents, just a sanded surface and a thin coat of silicone on each part. Let it set up a few minutes if you want. I think the cheap paper gaskets seep water.

I believe that pretty much any type EXCEPT the chrome ones will easily seal.
Years ago before I heard about all the problems with them, I got a chrome Mopar Performance neck through the local Dodge dealer.
Tried everything - double gaskets, homemade gaskets, washers for the bolts, different torque values - no joy.
You can actually see the curve in the mounting surface after installing/removing.
They are just made with very soft metal and distort very easily.

Now all you need is a quality gasket

I took the cheapo chrome one from Mancini and put it on a belt sander and cut some of the material off nice and straight. Then used a cheapo FelPro Gasket with some FelPro Indian Head Gasket Shellac....no problems whatsoever

Exactly...
The chrome one has a thick base and distorts when hot...
Made in China out of recycled Coors cans, Mopar, Summit, Jegs, PAW and many auto stores including Oreily sold them..
I tried all the mentioned things...
Higher torque down
Sanding its base
Double gasket
No gasket w/RTV
High temp sealant

IMHO...
The root issue, is its material simply distorts after getting hot. Got the Napa one, installed new gasket, torqued it down...
No leaks 3 years later..

Just my $0.02...
