Late model rear axle

Did Chrysler ever use a rear axle about the same width as a "A" body in any later model vehicles?
I need another rear end for my 64 Savoy wagon and measured it 60 5/8 drum face to drum face. I would like the replacement to be a few inches narrower.
Something late model that already had disc brakes would be nice.

The first thing I'd do is check the (Moparts) archives section on rear axles (several-pick the right one) which I believe is a reprint of the MP listed specs & iirc one or more of the specs (dimentions) posted there is wrong (I ain't sure) but that'd be where I'd start then Google or FABO. Adjusting wheel BS may help solve your deal

Do the current Challengers/Chargers have solid rear axles ? i can't think of anything else that's rear wheel drive with Discs that is LATE MODEL other than a pickup truck ?

There was talk of the 8.8 Exploder rear ??? but that is not Chrysler/Fiat/Diamler late model ...

It seems like some folks have used a newer Jeep axle under the older A bodies. I can't recall for certain if the donor vehicle was the XJ Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. These models used the 8 1/4 axle. (Along with some Dana axles) I don't think either of these axles are a direct, bolt in swap, but can be made to work.

Edit: Most of the Grand Cherokees had disk brakes. I think the disks can be swapped onto the Cherokee axles with out to much trouble.
