Melting engine compartment harness clip – Max Wedge

Melting engine compartment harness clip – Max Wedge - 12/07/14 09:47 PM

My friend has a 1963 Plymouth Fury - Max Wedge with exhaust manifolds. Earlier this week, he replaced the white clip that retains the engine compartment wire harness. This clip is the closest point to the exhaust manifold. Yesterday, he had to replace the new clip because it melted. He just purchased (10) of the white clips from Bill & Rose Evans this week. Anyone else experience this melting issue?

No but his exhaust temps may be running high for a variety of reasons

I have not. I'd suggest checking with evans to let them know. possible it's not made of heat resistant material.
other post may be considered as well, yet if it's not hot...
I just re-read op, was the original clip from evans? If not, might not have the problem after.

Got a IR temp heat gun? How hot is it as soon as he opens the hood after a long drive?

I bet the motor is lean which makes them run hot, my guess.

If it's that clip in the picture, then yes that motor is lean!! because the clip is pretty far away IMO.
